Foundations

I'm currently working on this series, all mixed media on canvas (mostly acrylic paint). This idea started as an awareness of rock formations as foundationsthe immensity of cliffs or mesas...their weight capturing intrusions of other kinds of minerals, objects, and, perhaps, evidence of creatures or their habitats. I began with small oil pastel sketches to see how many ways I could divide up a space, but still address that idea. The collection of some of those sketches is at the bottom of the page.
