Two, eight, seven, nine

ID# PWG125         $325

Mixed media on paper, mounted on metal-faced cradled panel, 20 x 20 x 1.6, carriage bolts on each corner; varnished with Grumbacher UV Varnish to protect the surface from UV exposure and dirt.

Part of the Cipher, De-Cipher series, this number painting is an exploration of the number as a symbolic element in a new context. Numbers have a lot of significance in our lives. They define time segments, order tasks, records, and memories…prioritize events…rank importance…allow us to communicate via phone and electronic devices…define our currency.

What if we temporarily isolated numbers and let them be obscure symbols that are untethered from all of that meaning? Or what if they suggest meaning, but leave us to our own devices for interpretation?
